Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2023
The Land
This wine is grown in the cool-climate vineyards of Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. This region's fog-influenced mornings and warm afternoons create an ideal environment for Sauvignon Blanc, allowing the grapes to develop vibrant acidity and expressive fruit flavors.
The Wine
This Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of two clones: two-thirds Shenandoah (Clone 1) and one-third Sauvignon Musqué. The wine is barrel-fermented in French oak, with 18% new barrels, and undergoes lees stirring twice weekly, enhancing its aromatic complexity and lush mouthfeel. On the nose, it presents enticing aromas of Meyer lemon, white pineapple, lime zest, and white blossoms. The palate is silky, offering flavors of ripe yellow stone fruit, lemongrass, honeydew, and marzipan, balanced by bright acidity and a refreshing finish.
The People
Founded by trailblazing winemaker Merry Edwards in 1997, the winery has a legacy of producing exceptional wines. Since 2019, under the ownership of Champagne Louis Roederer, the estate continues its commitment to quality and sustainability. Winemaker Heidi von der Mehden, who joined the team in 2015 and became head winemaker in 2018, upholds the meticulous practices that define Merry Edwards wines, including barrel fermentation and lees stirring, ensuring each vintage reflects the unique terroir of the Russian River Valley.
