Mazière “G” Grenache 2022
The Land:
In the rugged, windswept hills of Padern, a remote village in Languedoc’s Corbières region, Grenache thrives on limestone and schist soils that lend the wine its tension and mineral backbone. The Mediterranean climate, moderated by cooling winds from the Pyrenees, ensures slow ripening, balancing Grenache’s natural generosity with freshness and structure. These extreme conditions produce wines of depth, purity, and unmistakable terroir-driven character.
The Wine:
Sourced from a single old-vine parcel, this 100% Grenache is fermented with native yeasts and aged in neutral Burgundy barrels. Whole-cluster fermentation enhances aromatic complexity, while aging without new oak preserves the wine’s vibrancy. The result is a Grenache that is lifted, savory, and textured—delicate yet structured, with bright blue fruit, subtle spice, and a meaty finish. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with no added SO₂, this is pure, unadulterated Grenache with a raw, elegant edge.
The People:
Fabrice Monnin, a former geologist from Jura, took over Mazière in 2013, bringing a deep respect for the land and a intentional-intervention approach to winemaking. Farming just two hectares in the wilds of Padern, he focuses on old vines, indigenous grapes, and low-intervention methods to craft wines of place and precision. His wines capture the raw beauty of the Corbières landscape, offering a pure and unpolished expression of this rugged terroir.
